- Q: How to Service and Repair Automatic Transmission Shift Levers on 2007 Lincoln MKZ?A: Starting the automatic transmission shifter repair requires first removing the center console from the vehicle. The cable end of the automatic transmission shift lever requires disconnection from the lever to access the tab which releases the automatic transmission shift lever housing. You must first detach the electrical connector followed by removing the four nuts that hold the automatic transmission shift lever before taking out the automatic transmission shift lever. Install the automatic transmission shift lever by aligning it properly then fasten it using the four nuts that should be tightened to 9 ft. lbs (12 Nm). Reconnect the electrical connector before locking the automatic transmission shift lever cable locking tabs and placing the cable end onto the ball stud. The automatic transmission shift lever cable needs to be inserted into the bracket while pressing until you hear a click then check the lock by pulling back on the cable.
