2008 Lincoln MKZ Tie Rod Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the tie rod inner on 2008 Lincoln MKZ?
A: Service and repair of tie rod inner components begin with steering gear removal followed by pinion shaft and steering gear housing marking before installation. A steering gear should always be placed inside a soft-jaw vise to avoid any harm. You should loosen the tie-rod jam nut followed by removing the outer tie-rod end before installing it to a torque of 90 Nm (66 lb-ft). Both bellows boots have to be removed before extracting the right-hand inner tie-rod end because technicians need to unfasten four bellow clamps and remove the two steering gear bellows boots. When removing the inner tie-rod end you should use an appropriate wrench to grasp the piston shaft before tightening the component to 103 Nm (76 lb-ft). The piston shaft must be held during inner tie rod end tightening while the new rock washer should receive a crimp after the tightening process. To finish the installation process you must revert the removal steps.
