2007 Lincoln Navigator Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the left-hand exhaust manifold on 2007 Lincoln Navigator?
A: A hoist should support the vehicle at its center with the left-hand exhaust manifold service in progress. Begin service of the left-hand exhaust manifold by taking out the air cleaner outlet tube and the degas bottle. It is essential to take preventive measures to stop the steering column shaft from rotating when disconnecting the intermediate shaft since Clock Spring damage can result from rotation; if rotation happens the Clock Spring needs to be removed for recentering. Dispose the steering shaft bolt after its removal so that you can disconnect the steering shaft. Chase down the four exhaust manifold-to-catalytic converter nuts prior to taking out the three bolts which secure the exhaust manifold heat shield. Before starting work on four-wheel drive vehicles drivers must disconnect the front driveshaft. Use a socket wrench to take out the exhaust manifold together with its studs and nuts while keeping aside the discardable nuts and studs. You should clean sealing surfaces using a plastic scraper together with metal surface prep but avoid using any abrasive materials because they may harm the surface. The technician needs to check if any problems exist on the exhaust manifold. The installation process starts by replacing both exhaust manifold gaskets and studs before placing the two gaskets together with the exhaust manifold. The eight studs should then be installed and tightened at 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.). The new exhaust manifold nuts need installation followed by torque tightening to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.) according to the specified order. The installation process for front driveshafts begins with the reinstallation of the driveshaft in four-wheel drive vehicles. Connect the steering shaft to its correct position while keeping it from rotating and fasten the bolt to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). The four exhaust manifold-to-catalytic converter nuts need installation first followed by positioning the exhaust manifold heat shield followed by securing it using three bolts that should be tightened to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). Complete the replacement operation by putting back the degas bottle and air cleaner outlet tube.
