2008 Lincoln Navigator Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the left-hand exhaust manifold on 2008 Lincoln Navigator?
A: Service of the left-hand exhaust manifold starts by first putting the vehicle into neutral gear then installing it on a hoist. Proceed by removing the air cleaner outlet tube together with the degas bottle. Precautions are required to stop the steering column shaft from rotating when disconnecting the intermediate shaft to protect the Clock Spring because any rotation requires removal of the Clock Spring followed by recentering. The steering shaft disconnect process requires removal of its bolt which allows setting it aside. Start by removing the exhaust manifold-to-catalytic converter nuts in four locations and afterward take out the heat shield bolts. The front driveshaft must be taken out from four-wheel drive active vehicles. Follow up by uninstalling all exhaust manifold nuts with studs and the exhaust manifold from its position while throwing away the studs and nuts. You should clean the sealing surfaces with a plastic scraper and metal surface prep yet steer away from abrasive tools that could harm the surfaces. Position the two gaskets and exhaust manifold using new hardware components then install the eight studs before tightening each one to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Follow the specified sequence when you tighten the eight new exhaust manifold nuts to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). You should install the front driveshaft of the four-wheel drive vehicle at this stage. Reinstall the steering shaft before tightening it to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) torque while installing the four exhaust manifold nuts to the catalytic converter. After positioning the exhaust manifold heat shield install it by using the three bolts which need to be tightened to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) followed by reinstalling both the degas bottle and the air cleaner outlet tube.
