2007 Lincoln Town Car Brake Pedal Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake pedal assembly on 2007 Lincoln Town Car?
A: Service and repair of the brake pedal assembly starts by disconnecting the battery ground cable. The first step includes removing the instrument panel close-out panel through the removal of pushpins and counter-clockwise rotation of lamp. You must now take out the speed control deactivator switch. The service starts with removing the booster push rod retaining pin cover and its matching retaining pin. Removal of the brake pedal pin starts with slide removal of the stoplight switch followed bywasher, bushing and booster push rod. Fasten the brake pedal bracket bolt at 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) torque setting before reattaching it. The brake pedal drive cable must be dismantled from its assembly while the stoplight switch harness needs to be disconnected from the brake pedal bracket. Pop out the pinch bolt to separate the steering column shaft from the steering column lower yoke before discarding it and fasten the new bolt to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) when reinstalling. The four brake pedal bracket nuts and the brake pedal bracket should be installed with a torque of 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) at reinstallation time. A proper indexing procedure must always be performed on the adjustable pedal system after performing any repair on brake or accelerator pedal assemblies. When installing the brake switch align it in a way that the closed hole faces away from the brake pedal arm and the open hole faces toward the brake pedal arm. The last step includes reversing the removal process while checking for proper stoplight performance.
