2007 Lincoln Town Car Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on 2007 Lincoln Town Car?
A: The first step for servicing or repairing the vacuum brake booster requires disconnecting the battery ground cable. Service work on the brake vacuum booster starts with disconnecting the brake fluid level sensor electrical connector together with the brake booster check valve. Turn off the power then disconnect the brake master cylinder's two nuts before re-tightening them to 28 Nm during reassembly. Start by disconnecting the wiring harness bracket before carefully placing it to the side. Next remove the brake master cylinder forward and set it to the side while freeing the components from their bracket as well as associated mounting fasteners. Detach the pin-type retainers followed by the instrument close-out panel. The stop lamp switch and the speed control deactivator switch need to be removed first because extracting the brake pedal and bracket together with the brake booster and associated mounting fasteners poses a threat of damaging these switches. The procedure begins by disconnecting the stop lamp switch electrical connector before removing the cover incorporating the self-locking pin so that the stop lamp switch can be taken away from the brake booster push rod and brake pedal. The speed control deactivator switch should be removed when it is included. To proceed separate the brake booster push rod retaining pin cover and its components including the retaining pin along with washer and bushing and switch. Then move the booster push rod off the pedal pin. Secure the power brake booster nuts by torquing them to reach 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) when installing the parts. Before adding the speed control deactivator switch you must finish installing the brake booster and brake pedal and their bracket while making sure the brake pedal arm rests on the brake booster push rod at its normal position when idle. Operation of the brake pedal should be avoided when installing the speed control deactivator switch to prevent wrong adjustments and damage. A facing position for the brake switch requires the open hole to direct toward the brake pedal arm yet positioned away from its bracket. The brake booster input rod needs proper installation orientation before finishing the procedure by performing steps in reverse order.
