2006 Lincoln Town Car Brake Pedal Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the brake pedal assembly on 2006 Lincoln Town Car?
A: Service and repair of the brake pedal assembly requires starting with battery ground cable disconnect. The instrument panel close-out panel can be taken off by removing pushpins and deinstalling the lamp in a counterclockwise direction. You should start by removing the speed control deactivator switch and then proceed to take out the booster push rod retaining pin cover and removal of the pin. Use tools to slide off the stoplight switch, washer and bushing and booster push rod from its position on the brake pedal pin. The brake pedal bracket bolt needs removal while following a torque setting of 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.) when reinstalling it. Separate the adjustable brake pedal drive cable from the brake pedal assembly while you disconnect the stoplight switch harness that is affixed to the pedal bracket. The lower steering column shaft can be properly separated from the steering column lower yoke through bolt removal followed by bolt disposal and subsequent tightening to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.) during assembly. The brake pedal bracket requires removal together with its four bracket nuts before installation by tightening all nuts to 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). The indexing of the adjustable pedal system must happen following brake pedal assembly or accelerator pedal assembly repair. The brake switch positioning requires the closed hole to face away from the brake pedal arm and the open hole to face toward it. The installation process ends with reverse removal steps until the stoplight shows proper function.
