2007 Mercury Monterey Seat Cushion Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the second row bench seat cushion on 2007 Mercury Monterey?
A: The first step for servicing the second row bench seat cushion involves taking out the second row bench seat. Access the recliner handle clip on the LH side shield by carefully prying the shield to reach it then remove the clip and handle from their positions. First uninstall the LH pivot handle and its associated pivot handle clip by accessing them from the bottom side of the LH side shield. The service begins by unfastening the four screws that secure the LH side shield. The second set of steps involves the RH side shield by removing its recliner handle as well as pivot handle if equipped together with its four screws. Follow the procedure of bolt removal for the LH safety belt buckle while restoring its torque to 58 Nm (43 lb-ft) when reinstalling it. Separate the cushion release cables through an operation which includes both RH and LH cable ends and their separate anchor retainers. Use a torque wrench to tighten the two LH backrest-to-cushion bolts to 58 Nm (43 lb-ft) when reattaching them followed by bolt and RH safety belt buckle tightening to the same torque value. After removing the two RH backrest-to-cushion bolts workers should detach the backrest from the cushion by tightening them to 58 Nm (43 lb-ft) during reinstallation. Detach the four screws holding both the LH and RH inboard and outboard riser shields. The procedure includes removing the seat track assist spring followed by the six seat riser-to-seat track nuts and the seat riser in which you should tighten everything to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) prior to reassembly. The seat track requires eight bolts for removal while their torque should be set to 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) upon reinstallation. When reinstalling the bolt in the center safety belt buckle assembly maintain a torque of 58 Nm (43 lb-ft). Unclip the J-clips while removing the seat cushion trim cover with its foam pad from the frame of the seat cushion by gently splitting hook and loop fasteners until they separate without damage. The entire foam pad requires the removal of its cushion trim cover while all hog rings must be discarded. The completion of assembly demands following the opposite sequence of disassembly steps to deliver accessibility of safety belts and buckles to occupants when the system is ready for use.
