2008 Ford E-150 Evaporator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the evaporator core on 2008 Ford E-150?
A: The first step for servicing the evaporator core includes checking for leaks through vacuum testing followed by refrigerant recovery. During the service of 4.6L, 5.4L or 6.8L engine vehicles you must detach the air cleaner assembly together with the battery and battery tray followed by tightening the battery tray bolts to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft) before reinstalling. First detach the oil filler tube by unmounting its bolt along with clamp then re-torque the bolt to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) during assembly. Separate the A/C condenser connections by eliminating the 2 nuts and throwing away the O-ring and gasket seals afterward secure the fittings at 15 Nm (11 lb-ft). The junction box bracket bolts require removal for vehicles using a 6.0L diesel engine before carefully positioning the box aside and reconnecting these bolts with 28 Nm (21 lb-ft) torque setting. Following the removal of engine cover you should tighten the CAC tube clamps to 12 Nm (9 lb-ft) during reinstallation. Unfasten the cowl ground bolt while disconnecting its electrical connector then place the wire harness to the side before removing both the CAC and oil filler tube bolts. First unclamp the oil filler tube attached to the valve cover. Then remove both nuts and the CAC tube together with the oil fill tube and bracket. First remove the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor from its place before removing the A/C condenser fittings and discarding the O-ring seals which require installation torque of 8 Nm (71 lb-in). The 2 bolts securing the washer reservoir filler tube must be removed before reinstalling the tube by tightening it to 9 Nm (80 lb-in). The evaporator outlet fitting requires disconnection while throwing away its O-ring seal so reinstall by tightening to 39 Nm (29 lb-ft). To replace the backing components proceed by first removing the suction accumulator outlet line bracket screw and the fitting nut. Then discard both the O-ring seal and gasket seal and tighten the fitting to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) and the screw to 2 Nm (18 lb-in) for reinstallation. The suction accumulator fitting requires removal from vehicles that use auxiliary A/C and the process requires discarding O-ring seals. For the evaporator inlet fitting installation tighten it to 18 Nm (13 lb-ft) while tightening the bracket screw to 2 Nm (18 lb-in). You must first remove 5 screws and 4 screws to detach the evaporator core cover followed by the evaporator core housing support bracket removal through disconnection of its screws. Mission phase includes the evaporator core removal thenrehooking occurs in the reverse order along with use of new gasket seals although O-ring seals remain newly installed to be used as original replacements while PAG oil lubricates the system followed by evacuation leak testing and charging the system with refrigerant.
