The Evaporator is found in the climate control system for Ford E-150 automobiles, and is one of the most trusted and efficient. This Evaporator is very important in the air conditioning of the cabin, because it is the one which takes in heat from the air to make the driving comfortable. The Evaporator is installed under the dashboard and this has several thin aluminum tubes with fins that boost heat transfer. This makes the air cooler, while at the same time removing moisture which forms on the Evaporator's surface making the cabin environment healthier. Since its introduction in 1957 the Ford E-150 has gone through several models and since the Evaporator size and design is standardized across these models the Evaporator will be useful for the owners of any type of a Ford E-150 model. It has changed over the years but the goal is still the same: to provide a design that more or less optimizes both speed and protection. Leak or clogging are some of the regular problems that may even hamper the functionality of the Evaporator hence the need to do regular servicing. Hence a major value proposition that the Evaporator has over its compatriots in the automobile market is its build to last - a construction that gives the product longevity. Being responsible for providing the proper conditions of the cabin, the Evaporator is one of the critical components of the Ford E-150 helping to create the atmosphere of reliability and satisfaction.

Ford E-150 Evaporator Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the evaporator core on Ford E-150?
    A:
The evaporator core requires vacuum testing as the first step when a leak is suspected. Begin by recovering the refrigerant. Rephrase this section for 4.6L, 5.4L and 6.8L engine vehicles by disassembling the Air Cleaner (ACL) assembly and battery tray along with the battery. The installation requires tightening battery tray bolts to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft). The next step requires bolt and clamp removal together with the oil filler tube while tightening the assembly to 9 Nm (80 lb-in) when reinstalling. The process of disconnecting A/C condenser fittings includes removing 2 nuts followed by discarding O-ring seals and gasket seals before tightening the fittings at 15 Nm (133 lb-in). The reinstallation process of vehicles with a 6.0L diesel engine requires tightening the 3 junction box bracket bolts and the remaining junction box bracket bolt to 28 Nm (21 lb-ft). Tighten the Charge Air Cooler (CAC) tube clamps to 12 Nm (106 lb-in) after cover reinstallation. Reinstall the cowl ground strap bolt while tightening its ground strap to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) during the procedure. Start by placing the wire harness off to the side. Then remove the locking tab while taking out the 3 wire harness bolts and separate the pin-type retainer from the harness. Disconnect the valve cover oil filler tube by first removing its bolts followed by unclamping the tube to separate it from the valve cover and then removing the 2 nuts and CAC tube, oil fill tube and bracket. After removing its bolt position the MAP sensor aside while you disconnect the A/C condenser fittings and discard the O-ring seals before tightening the fittings to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). All vehicles need a washer reservoir filler tube installation method which includes 2 bolt removal and torque setting of 9 Nm (80 lb-in) for reassembly. To reinstall the fitting reconnect it to the evaporator outlet while discarding the O-ring seal along with tightening it to 39 Nm (29 lb-ft). Reconnect the high-pressure cutoff switch electrical connector by first removing the suction accumulator outlet line bracket screw along with the compressor suction line fitting nut and then tighten both parts to 15 Nm (133 lb-in) and 2 Nm (18 lb-in). All vehicles with auxiliary A/C should have the suction accumulator fitting disconnected while discarding its O-ring seals. Reconnect the evaporator inlet fitting through these steps: first remove the bracket screw then discard the O-ring seal and tighten the fitting to 18 Nm (159 lb-in) while securing the screw to 2 Nm (18 lb-in). Move to the first step by removing screws from both the evaporator core housing support bracket and its cover. The cover contains five screws along with four additional screws that need removal. Use new gasket seals along with O-ring seals for installation and follow the precise steps for oil lubrication of the refrigerant system with PAG oil and system evacuation and leak testing before refrigerant addition.
