2008 Ford Expedition A/C Expansion Valve Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair an A/C Expansion Valve in a Climate Control System on 2008 Ford Expedition?
A: Refrigerant recovery should be the first step for servicing thermostatic expansion valve (TXV) in the climate control system. The fitting nut connecting the auxiliary evaporator inlet requires removal along with the fitting installation of new gasket seal and O-ring seal while tightening the fitting to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft) for reinstallation. After recovery of the refrigerant users should remove the evaporator inlet and outlet fittings while discarding O-ring seals. Separate the TXV manifold and tube assembly from its supports at the two TXV manifold and tube brackets before removing the strap that secures the TXV insulator. To install the new fitting you should discard O-ring seals then tighten it to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). Separate the two TXV securing bolts and discard the old O-ring seals before apply new O-ring seals and torquing bolts to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). The service requires reassembly of components by installing new gasket seals and O-ring seals and by using the proper amount of clean PAG oil to lubricate the refrigerant system. The final step includes refrigerant system evacuation and leak detection and charging the system with refrigerant.
