2008 Ford Explorer Exhaust Pipe Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the exhaust pipe on 2008 Ford Explorer?
A: Service and repair of the exhaust pipe begins with setting the vehicle to neutral gear on a hoist. Disengage the rubber isolator before you remove the tailpipe by first opening the muffler assembly-to-tailpipe Torca® clamp. For proper maintenance of the exhaust hanger bracket avoid applying oil or grease-based lubricants to isolators because these substances degrade the rubber material which might separate the bracket from its position. Water-based lubricants are suitable alternatives. For proper retention of exhaust components follow the specified torque values when reassembling while using new fasteners with identical part numbers to the original ones. Place the tailpipe while installing and connect the rubber isolator. The Torca® clamp must feature a torque setting of 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) after fitting the tab on the muffler assembly into the tailpipe notch and cleaning away any rust on the surrounding surface areas. Original zero-load levels should be checked on the exhaust system isolators. If zero loads are not observed perform the exhaust system alignment procedure.
