2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty Steering Shaft Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Steering Shaft on 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty?
A: The steering column shaft maintenance process needs front wheel alignment at straight-ahead before rotating the wheel through 180 degrees. The upper steering column shaft-to-steering column bolt should be removed first while discarding it during replacement and new bolt installation requires a torque of 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.). The craft of servicing or repairing the steering column shaft requires careful attention because the intermediate shaft disconnect can create damage to the Clock Spring; the Clock Spring must be removed for recentering in case the shaft rotates. Put the steering wheel at a right angle while also taking out the key then disconnect the upper steering column shaft from its position on the steering column. The installation process requires you to reject the upper steering column shaft-to-lower steering column shaft bolt yet apply 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.) torque onto the new bolt. You will disconnect the upper steering column shaft inside the passenger compartment before you can separate the steering gear shield from the steering gear housing. Tighten the new bolt between 35 Nm and 26 ft. lbs. when installing it into the lower steering column shaft and steering gear bolt position. The last action is to take out the lower steering column shaft before reinstalling everything in its reverse order.
