2008 Ford Focus Shock Absorber Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair a shock absorber on 2008 Ford Focus?
A: The first step to work on the shock absorber requires you to remove the parcel shelf support panel to gain access to the upper shock absorber nut. Maintaining contact with the holding feature is essential to stop the shock rod from rotating before removing the nut because loosening the nut without this feature might harm the shock absorber. The upper nut can be disposed before you inspect and replace the upper mount if needed. First remove the tire and wheel before taking out the shock absorber lower bolt and shock absorber itself and discarding the bolt. Install the shock absorber into its designated position before placing the lower bolt with minimal tightening force. Attach the wheel with tire and drop the vehicle to allow its weight to rest on the wheels before tightening. Apply 103 Nm force to tighten the shock absorber lower bolt. While installing the upper nut with the holding feature activated the shock rod must not turn and the final torque should be set to 18 Nm (13 ft. lbs.). Reinstall the parcel shelf support panel as the last step.
