The shock rod must be prevented from turning through the hex-holding feature during upper nut removal to protect the shock absorber before discarding the nut. Check the condition of the upper mount then replace it when needed. The first step requires wheel removal along with the tire before extracting the shock absorber by removing its lower bolt which needs discarding. The installer should put the new shock absorber in place and only loosely secure the shock absorber lower bolt at this time before moving ahead. Place back the tire and wheel before the vehicle descent is complete underneath its weight. Secure the shock absorber lower bolt at 103 Nm (76 lb-ft) torque. Holding the hex features will keep the shock rod from rotating as you tighten it to 18 Nm (159 lb-in) torque. The last step involves reinstalling the parcel shelf support panel after finishing all the previous steps. Your safety depends on using newly installed suspension fasteners which have either identical part numbers or match equivalent quality standards for optimal performance.
