- Q: How to service the 40 percent second-row seat cushion on 2008 Ford Taurus X?A: The servicing of the 40 percent second-row seat cushion begins by taking out both the rear seat and the rear seat backrest. The inboard latch foot must be secured to enable the backrest fixture at a perpendicular position. Pull the J-clip located under the seat from its position after which you must access the cushion foam pad and cushion frame lower side to release the J-clip which connects to the frame. The service on the 40 percent second-row seat cushion begins with removing the riser/seat track retainers from the cushion frame and riser/seat track gap. Afterwards you can remove the cushion foam pan and attached cushion trim cover. Two screws must be taken off before removing the riser/seat track outboard inner cover and then three screws must be removed to take off the outboard outer cover. You can detach the manual recliner handle by unscrewing its screw before removing the recliner outer cover by taking out two screws to achieve proper cover opening alignment of the release strap during reassembly. Detach the pin-type retainer before releasing the locator tabs and pulling off the recliner inner cover while paying attention to how the recliners have quick-folding springs that can lead to injury. Before removal mark where the cables will route through the seat cushion frame. Remove the two cables from the recliner then direct them out of the frame pathway. Application requires removal of two bolts from the recliner at 50 Nm (37 lb-ft) torque setting to secure the unit in place. After removing the six cushion frame-to-riser/seat track nuts the technician should take off the riser/seat track and apply 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) torque when reinstalling. Secure the safety belt buckle with a bolt that needs tightening to 37 Nm (27 lb-ft) during installation. After removing the pivot grommet and the inboard pivot cover, proceed with removing the screw. Taking off the riser inboard inner cover requires removal of two screws before proceeding to the riser inboard outer cover with its three screws. The final assembly requires you to detach the cushion trim cover from the cushion foam pad before you follow the exact order of disassembly to rebuild the seat.
