2008 Lincoln MKZ Fuel Rail Parts Q&A

  • Q: What precautions should be taken when servicing the fuel rail to avoid serious personal injury on 2008 Lincoln MKZ?
A: Service of the fuel rail requires strict avoidance of smoking or carrying lighted tobacco or operating with open flames since highly flammable mixtures will create serious risks of personal injury. The first step requires you to reduce fuel system pressure because it operates under high pressure after turning the engine off. First disconnected the battery ground cable then you need to remove the upper intake manifold after that disconnect the fuel tube-to-fuel rail spring lock coupling. The procedure requires the use of a set of sockets to first disconnect the six fuel injector electrical connectors and then remove the four fuel rail bolts before extracting the fuel rail and injectors together as one unit. New O-ring seals made of fuel-resistant material must be used to replace the twelve fuel injector O-ring seals since regular seals would enable liquid fuel leaks. Place clean engine oil on new seals before putting six fuel injectors with their clips into the fuel rail because the upper and lower O-ring seals cannot be exchanged. Thankfully tighten the four bolts holding the assembly to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) after properly reattaching the fuel rail together with its injectors. Reposition the battery ground cable while reinstalling the upper intake manifold then tight the six fuel injector electrical connectors and the fuel tube-to-fuel rail spring lock coupling.
