2008 Lincoln MKZ Spark Plug Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the spark plugs on 2008 Lincoln MKZ?
A: Begin spark plug service by disconnecting the crankcase vent tube quick connect coupling at the LH valve cover fitting then set it to the side. The upper intake manifold needs to be removed to gain access to the spark plugs of the RH side. The service starts by disconnecting the electrical connectors which attach to the six ignition coil-on-plug plugs. Gently twisting the ignition coil-on-plugs will break their seal before they become easy to remove. Unscrew both the six bolts and six ignition coil-on-plug components. Hand tools provide the necessary protection for spark plug removal and installation because any other tool could damage the cylinder head or spark plug. Use compressed air to remove foreign material from the plug well before proceeding with spark plug removal of the six units. Check and tighten the six spark plugs before you adjust their gaps for proper installation. Hand tools should be used exclusively to install spark plugs while tightening them to 15 Nm (11 lb-ft). After smearing a small quantity of dielectric grease inside the ignition coil-on-plug boots users can place them on the spark plugs before tightening their six bolts to 7 Nm (62 lb-in). To complete the procedure you must install the upper intake manifold on the right hand side while connecting the crankcase vent tube quick connect coupling to its fitting on the left hand side.
