2008 Lincoln MKZ Thermostat Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the thermostat for the 3.5L engine on 2008 Lincoln MKZ?
A: The service process of a 3.5L engine thermostat starts by emptying the cooling system fluid. Start by removing the air cleaner along with the outlet pipe before disconnecting the lower radiator hose from the thermostat housing cover. Keep the hose safely to one side. The two housing cover bolts and O-ring seal and thermostat must be removed together from the housing. The O-ring seal needs cleaning inspection until additional replacement with a new one becomes necessary. Clean engine coolant should be applied to the O-ring seal before you install the new thermostat and fasten the housing cover bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-inch). To complete the procedure install all components then fill and bleed the cooling system.
