2008 Lincoln Town Car Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the left-hand exhaust manifold on 2008 Lincoln Town Car?
A: Begin the left-hand exhaust manifold service procedure by hoisting the vehicle into position with neutral transmission while keeping the wheel straight ahead. The Clock Spring is prone to damage when the intermediate shaft rotates independently from the steering gear so this minimization process requires immediate removal and positioning of the Clock Spring. Lift the intermediate shaft by unfastening its pinch bolt before storing it away. The exhaust manifold heat shield stays in place since we detach the two bolts which secure it. The two nuts connecting the catalytic converter to the exhaust manifold need removal before setting the catalytic converter flange aside with disposal of the nuts. First disconnect the EGR system module tube together with the left-hand heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). Then apply penetrating and lock lubricant to the sensor threads if needed before tube removal. The maintenance requires discarding the eight exhaust manifold nuts and gasket before removing both the exhaust manifold and its eight manifold studs. Inspection and cleaning of the exhaust manifold should occur before mounting it into position. Fasten each of the eight new exhaust manifold studs using a torque of 12 Nm (9 lb-ft). Install the exhaust manifold with its new gasket on top of the studs followed by installation of eight new lock nuts. Thread these nuts down with the stated installation sequence to a torque of 20 Nm (15 lb-ft). Before installing a new HO2S apply anti-seize lubricant to its threads then tighten the sensor to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft). Screw the EGR system module tube properly to the exhaust manifold but maintain a torque of 43 Nm (32 lb-ft). Fasten the catalytic converter flange by using two new nuts which require a torque setting of 48 Nm (35 lb-ft). The last step includes installation of the exhaust manifold heat shield while tightening its bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). Then connect the intermediate shaft to the steering gear using a pinch bolt and tighten it to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft).
