  • Q: How to Remove and Replace the Front Shock Absorber on 2008 Lincoln Town Car?
    A: You must start changing the suspension strut by first taking off the wheel along with its tire. Do not remove the shock absorber center nut because it acting as a safety precaution to stop spring tension and prevent serious injury. Disassemble and discard the three shock absorber upper mount nuts. Maintain the brake hose's safety by removing the two bolts from the caliper and anchor plate assembly then supporting it with mechanic's wire. Next, remove the brake disc. The hex-holding system will stop the stud from spinning when removing first the stabilizer bar upper link nut and then moving to the stabilizer bar link lower nut and the stabilizer bar link. After removing the wheel speed sensor wiring harness retainer from the wheel knuckle you must get rid of the upper ball joint nut and shock absorber lower nut and flag bolt separately. Disconnect the shock absorber together with the spring assembly. The shock absorber and spring assembly should be positioned first and then the lower nut and flag bolt should be loosely installed before tightening the upper ball joint nut to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft). Reinstall the wheel speed sensor wiring harness at the wheel knuckle while placing the stabilizer bar link in position. Fasten both nuts defined as 55 Nm (41 lb-ft) in torque for the lower nut and 63 Nm (46 lb-ft) in torque for the upper nut. Attach the brake disc first and next position the brake caliper and anchor plate assembly before tightening its two anchor plate bolts to 160 Nm (118 lb-ft). The wheel and tire should return and then the shock absorber upper mount nuts must be torqued to 30 Nm (22 lb-ft). When the vehicle rests on its wheel with tire assembly tighten the shock absorber lower nut to 235 Nm (173 lb-ft).
