2008 Lincoln Town Car Steering Knuckle Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the steering knuckle on 2008 Lincoln Town Car?
A: Start steering knuckle service and repair operations by taking off the wheel with attached tire. The brake hose should not support the caliper and anchor plate assembly to avoid damage. Mechanics wire can help support the assembly while the bolts are removed. First detach the brake disc before pulling back the rubber splash shield to disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector. Apply the holding feature on the stud to stop spinning while loosening the outer tie rod nut before separating the rod from the wheel knuckle. Install the new nut by tightening it to 80 Nm (59 lb-ft). For the same procedure detach and discard the upper stabilizer bar link nut before installing a new nut that receives 63 Nm (46 lb-ft) torque setting. Remove the stabilizer link lower nut and stabilizer bar link from the vehicle before discarding the nut and installing the new one with a torque of 55 Nm (41 lb-ft). Remove the wheel speed sensor wiring harness retainer from the steering knuckle before you discard both upper ball joint nuts and tighten new ones to 150 Nm (111 lb-ft) torque when installing. After applying this technique to the lower ball joint nut you should remove the wheel knuckle then dispose of the nut while installing the new nut with a torque of 150 Nm (111 lb-ft). The installation requires you to remove four wheel bearing and wheel hub securing bolts before tightening new bolts to 120 Nm (89 lb-ft). The removal process should end with a front end alignment check to which appropriate adjustments need to be made.
