2008 Mercury Grand Marquis Exhaust Manifold Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service the left-hand exhaust manifold on 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis?
A: The process of servicing the left-hand exhaust manifold starts by deactivating the fire suppression system to avoid personal harm. The vehicle needs placement on a hoist with neutral gear and the steering wheel should be secured in the straight position. The intermediate shaft should not rotate when detached from the steering gear because Clock Spring damage might occur. In this case the Clock Spring needs removal and recentering. Unfasten the pinch bolt of the intermediate shaft then detach the shaft from its position. To begin the first step focuses on removing the exhaust manifold heat shield by detaching its two securing bolts. Proceed to disconnect the catalytic converter from the exhaust manifold by removing the installation nuts then place the catalytic converter flange aside before discarding the nuts. To initiate the repair service disconnect both the EGR system module tube from the exhaust manifold while removing the left-hand heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). First remove and throw away both exhaust manifold gasket and nuts among the eight nuts securing the exhaust manifold. The technician discards eight exhaust manifold studs before checking the manifold surface for flatness. Eight new exhaust manifold studs require installation before tightening them to 12 Nm (9 ft. lbs.). Install a new exhaust manifold gasket together with the exhaust manifold followed by eight new nuts which should be tightened to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) in the exact installation order. Connect the LH HO2S by tightening it to 43 Nm (32 ft. lbs.) and join the EGR system module tube to the exhaust manifold by tightening to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.). Attach the catalytic converter flange while using new nuts before tightening them to 48 Nm (35 ft. lbs.). Place back the exhaust manifold heat shield through its two mounting bolts before tightening them to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.). The installation process ends by fixing the intermediate shaft to the steering gear and locking the pinch bolt to 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.). Enable the fire suppression system only once you repower the system by following all safety warnings and avoiding serious personal injury through proper procedures.
