Before beginning install the vehicle into position on a hoist let the engine stop and use the Hunter(R) 28-75-1 steering wheel holding device to stabilize the wheel in a straight line. The intermediate shaft requires a stoppage of rotation during steering gear removal to protect the Clock Spring functionality; a rotated shaft requires Clock Spring refurbishment by removal. The technician should remove the intermediate shaft pinch bolt then detach the shaft before placing it away. Proceed by removing the exhaust manifold heat shield bolts at its two locations and extracting the shield before finding and discarding the catalytic converter-to-exhaust manifold nuts. First disconnect the EGR system module tube from the exhaust manifold before taking out the left-hand Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S).
