How to service and repair the steering angle sensor on 2008 Mercury Mountaineer?

To service steering angle sensor, loosen the three bolts of lower steering column cover, lower cover, then upper cover. Unscrew the electrical connector of the steering wheel rotation sensor and disconnect the sensor by de-assembling the two securing bolts. Undo these steps in order to reinstall.
