2009 Ford E-250 Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How should the Hydro-Boost(R) brake booster be serviced and repaired on 2009 Ford E-250?
A: The accumulation chamber in the Hydro-Boost(R) brake booster contains hazardous high-pressure nitrogen gas so you must always handle the assembly by its casting. Prior to installing the unit reviewers need to ensure that the accumulator snap ring sits properly in place. Treat the accumulator as disposal through safe methods by drilling a 1.6 mm (0.06 in) diameter hole into its end can. This procedure relieves high pressure inside the gas reservoir. After turning off the engine proceed with depressing the brake pedal four times to empty the brake booster accumulator reserve. After removing the brake master cylinder refrain from triggering the brake booster because such action may lead to damage. Disconnect power steering pressure line fittings before replacing the Teflon(R) seals with new ones using the Teflon(R) Seal Installer Set while torquing them to 63 Nm (46 lb-ft). The technician must disconnect the power steering return hose next. Take out the stoplamp switch from its alignment after positioning the brake pedal at its rest point to protect from damage. Detach the brake booster push rod first by removing the cotter pin retainer and vibrating pin then spacer before disconnecting the push rod from the brake pedal pin. The brake booster installation requires the removal of four nuts and the brake booster itself before tightening new ones to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). The correct position for the brake pedal while installing the stoplamp switch requires placing it at rest and connecting the booster push rod to prevent inaccurate adjustment as well as structural damage. Close the procedure by filling up the power steering fluid reservoir.
