A risk of severe injury or death arises from probing the electrical connectors of air bag and Safety Canopy(R) and side air curtain modules because it might trigger a deployment incident. The replacement of a new passenger air bag module assembly is not required for a damaged or discolored passenger air bag cover because the cover can receive stand-alone service. A warning indicator for the Supplemental Restraint System will show when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed while the ignition is ON and the system must be fully operational to release the vehicle to the customer. Begin by depowering the SRS. Screw in two passenger air bag module bolts through the glove compartment hole until they reach 8 Nm (71 lb-in) torque when installing the system. Maintenance of the passenger air bag module must be gentle and should avoid touching the passenger air bag cover edges in order to avoid system failure or impact damage. Apply complete force to insert all passenger air bag cover clips inside the instrument panel when performing the installation. First detach the two electrical connectors and disconnect the wire harness routing clip before pushing the module out of the instrument panel by releasing its cover clips. When installing wire harness routing clips should always stay connected to the passenger air bag module to protect it from harm. Finally, repower the SRS.
