  • Q: How to Service and Repair a Shift Cable in a Gearshift System on 2009 Ford Escape?
    A: You should disconnect the spring clip from the gearbox cable tip while making sure it stays fastened. Unfasten the transaxle gearshift control assembly cables by first removing the spring clip from its groove and then lifting it upward before rotating it 90 degrees. Before continuing the process of repair you need to remove the floor console after disconnecting the gearshift cables from their position on the transaxle bracket. Begin by taking off the Restraints Control Module (RCM) and disconnecting every electrical connector on the Smart Junction Box (SJB) as well as the two harness electrical connectors. Separate the gearshift cables from their assembly to the gearshift lever then unscrew the two grommet nuts which allow you to pull the cables through the vehicle. Assist you to lift the LH floor duct while pulling cables underneath it before removing them from the vehicle. You must position the arrow facing down during the cable installation of gearshift cables through the dash panel grommet. The selector cable along with the shift cable needs to be connected after which install the two gearshift cable grommet nuts through appropriate tightening to 10 Nm (89 lb-in). The gearshift cable adapter groove requires complete cable seating before adding the two clips to their installation locations. Tsx:1 and gearshift cables must be connected to the transaxle gearshift control assembly and then the SJB electrical connector and the two harness electrical connectors can be attached. After adjusting the gearshift cables you should reinstall both the floor console and RCM assembly.
