2009 Ford Escape Tie Rod End Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the inner tie rod end on 2009 Ford Escape?
A: Service the inner tie rod end requires first removing the wheel and tire followed by steering wheel rotation to the side of removal before loosening the tie-rod end jam nut. The tie-rod end jam nut requires loosening before installation which must adhere to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft) torque specification. Before replacement of the new nut install the nut until it reaches 80 Nm (59 lb-ft). The Ball Joint Separator enables the removal of the wheel knuckle from the outer tie-rod end before separating the tie rod. First remove the jam nut from the tie-rod end before discarding both boot clamps and the steering gear boot. A suitable tool should hold the steering gear rack during inner tie-rod end removal before installing it at 90 Nm (66 lb-ft) tension keeping pressure on the steering gear rack. After finishing the removal steps one should reinsert all components and verify the front toe by making required adjustments.
