2009 Ford Expedition Heater Core Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Heater Core on 2009 Ford Expedition?
A: Service of the Expedition EL and Navigator L auxiliary heater core requires you to position the vehicle in neutral gear on a hoist. The service starts with draining the engine coolant after removing the right-hand quarter trim panel. The vehicle requires a proper drain pan positioned underneath before removing the auxiliary heater floorpan quick disconnect fittings which allows remaining coolant to drain from the core. The next step requires removing first the heater core door screw followed by the two fitting clips for the auxiliary heater core tubes then disconnecting the tubes. Disconnect the inlet and outlet tubes from the auxiliary heater core housing after positioning it partially out while safely discarding the O-ring seals. Installation of the auxiliary heater core requires new O-ring seals obtained from the auxiliary heater core service kit. The heater core tube fittings need to have complete seat installation before applying the fitting clips for security. The installation of the new heater core requires the opposite order of removal steps to ensure proper placement before filling the engine cooling system.
