2009 Ford Explorer A/C Condenser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the A/C Condenser Core on 2009 Ford Explorer?
A: The first step for condenser core HVAC servicing consists of recovering refrigerant liquid. One must first remove the Air Cleaner (ACL) and tighten its two coolant expansion tank bolts. Place the coolant expansion tank properly aside before reinstalling it by securing the bolts with 7 Nm (62 lb-in). Disconnect the A/C pressure transducer electrical connection followed by removing the condenser inlet fitting nut and removing the fitting while discarding the O-ring seal and tighten the new fitting to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). The procedure should be repeated for the condenser outlet fitting which requires discarding its O-ring seal before securing it to 8 Nm (71 lb-in). Unclip the discharge line connectors from the compressor to condenser and remove the two cooling module bolts before reversing the cooling module position while tightening it to 12 Nm (106 lb-in). The upper radiator air deflector should be removed while tightening the two condenser core bolts to 12 Nm (106 lb-in) when reinstalling. Put the condenser core and both air deflectors aside before reversing the uninstallation process while installing new O-ring seals alongside the correct amount of PAG oil during the refrigerant system lubrication. The refrigerant system needs evacuation then leaks must be checked and finally a proper charge should be added.
