2009 Ford F-250 Super Duty Transmission Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Transmission Pan and Automatic Transmission Filter on 2009 Ford F-250 Super Duty?
A: Starting the automatic transmission fluid filter maintenance process requires stopping the vehicle in neutral position on a hoist. Draining the transmission fluid starts by removing the drain plug from its location. The first step requires unfastening the transmission fluid pan together with the gasket before extracting the transmission fluid filter. Use steady motions to pull out the transmission fluid filter seal without damaging the seal bore which might result in transmission failure. Review the bore to check whether the seal has left any residue then remove it if found. You must verify 100% removal of the old seal before adding the new transmission fluid filter and seal assembly. The new gasket must be placed on the transmission fluid pan followed by screwing all bolts with a crisscross pattern at 15 Nm (133 lb-in) torque. Replace and tighten the drain plug of the transmission fluid pan to 18 Nm force (159 lb-inches). Operating failure can be avoided by using the transmission fluid that meets manufacturer specifications. Through the filler tube feed your transmission with 7.0L (7.5 qt) fluid volume. Drive the moving selector lever through all transmission gears to check that the engagements are appropriate under engine operation. A check and adjustment of transmission fluid level should be carried out when the engine runs at normal operating temperature of 66-77°C (150-170°F) with the gear selector in neutral. Perform the adjustment in small quantities of 0.24L (0.5 pt) fluid until the hot indicator range is reached while also examining for transmission fluid leakage.
