2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty Throttle Position Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service the Throttle Position Sensor on a 6.8L Engine on 2009 Ford F-350 Super Duty?
A: Starting the service process for the Throttle Position (TP) Sensor of a 6.8L engine requires removal of the Air Cleaner (ACL) outlet pipe alongside disconnecting the TP sensor electrical connector. The exposure to direct heat needs to be avoided on the TP sensor and plastic pieces because heat damage can emerge if the Electronic Throttle Body (ETB) temperature reaches 120 °C (248°F). Heat the top of the Electronic Throttle Body using a proper gun to reach the top TP sensor bolt ear temperature of 55 °C (130°F) within a three-minute period from a 1,100-watt heat gun placed 25.4 mm (1 in) from the body. Digital temperature lasers together with infrared thermometers should be used to monitor the temperature. The installer should promptly unbolt the sensor that is located most distant from the heating source followed by the other bolt while discarding all hardware. Discard the TP sensor as a waste. To install the TP sensor first position the radial locator tab correctly with the radial locator hole on the ETB. Hand tools allow you to install the two new bolts while tightening them to a torque value of 3 Nm (27 lb-in). Connect the TP sensor electrical connector while reinstalling the ACL outlet pipe.
