2009 Ford Focus Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster equipped with ABS on 2009 Ford Focus?
A: Start servicing and repairing the vacuum brake booster of ABS-equipped vehicles by removing both Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) and Evaporative Emission (EVAP) canister purge valve for Partial Zero Emissions Vehicles (PZEV). The heater hose bracket needs to be detached from the cowl at its pin-type retainer stage before extracting the brake master cylinder. Start by removing the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch when the brake pedal is at rest position because this lets you compress switch plungers before they rotate in the bracket; wrong stoplamp switch position with extended plungers may damage the switches. To proceed with brake booster actuating rod removal follow these tasks: First separate the stoplamp switch, then let go of the attached tabs, next eliminate the brake booster actuating rod pin and dispose of it using proper waste collection practices before disconnecting the brake booster actuating rod from the brake pedal. The brake booster needs its nuts removed with a torque setting of 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) before you separate the brake booster. During installation of the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch avoid pressing or pulling or moving the brake pedal because installing them with the booster push rod attached to the brake pedal and in its at-rest position will prevent incorrect adjustment and potential damage. You should change the steps in reverse order for mounting while positioning the brake booster gasket correctly and aligning the brake booster actuator rod through the bulkhead rubber boot before adding a new brake booster actuating rod pin.
