2008 Ford Focus Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the vacuum brake booster on all on 2008 Ford Focus?
A: The first task to service or repair the vacuum brake booster on all vehicles begins with HCU (Hydraulic Control Unit) removal. As part of PZEV maintenance service providers should remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister purge valve. The heater hose bracket pin-type retainer should be disconnected from the cowl while removing the brake master cylinder. Before proceeding with a brake booster maintenance you must remove the stoplamp switch and speed control deactivator switch while the brake pedal stays at resting position and ensure both switch plungers stay compressed to prevent damage. The procedure ends with removing the stoplamp switch along with dislodging its tabs and extracting the brake booster actuating rod pin before discarding it. The brake booster actuating rod needs detachment from the brake pedal then remove brake booster retaining nuts requiring a torque of 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) for installation. Installation of the stoplamp switch or speed control deactivator switch requires the brake booster push rod to be attached to the brake pedal when in the at-rest position to keep damages at a minimum and the adjustment correct. The installation process ends with backward steps that require positioning the brake booster gasket correctly and aligning the brake booster actuator rod through the bulkhead rubber boot before installing the new brake booster actuating rod pin.
