2009 Ford Focus Starter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the starter motor on 2009 Ford Focus?
A: Every servicing and repair operation on the starter motor requires inital placement of the vehicle into NEUTRAL gear while using a hoist as a platform. You should disconnect the battery ground cable to stop electrical shorts that may lead to burns. Begin by removing the starter solenoid wire nut before installment by tightening it to 5 Nm (44 lb-in). Installation of the starter motor requires torquing the starter solenoid battery cable nut and starter motor solenoid wire harness terminal cover to 12 Nm (106 lb-in). Remove the Engine Oil Pressure (EOP) switch wire harness retainer from the starter stud bolt as the first step before using a wrench to remove the power steering tube bracket nut and setting the power steering tube and bracket off to the side until reinstallation where the nut must be tightened to 20 Nm (177 lb-in). After removing the upper bolt the starter motor and its lower stud bolt need to be taken out. You should torque the upper bolt to 35 Nm (26 lb-ft) followed by 35 Nm (26 lb-ft) on the lower stud bolt after making them finger-tight initially. Complete the installation by performing the opposite steps of the removal sequence.
