2009 Ford Fusion Thermostat Housing Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the thermostat housing on a 2.3L engine on 2009 Ford Fusion?
A: When servicing the thermostat housing for 2.3L engines start with a neutral-gear setting and hoist placement of the vehicle. Drain the cooling system. Service of the thermostat assembly requires removal of the housing bolts which become visible after clearing power steering along with engine and A/C components using hand tools with 1/4-inch drive. Both bolts securing the left-hand upper thermostat housing require access from under the hood whereas right-hand upper and lower bolts need access below the vehicle surface. The three bolts should be removed to access the hose clamps through the repositioned thermostat housing before you discard the gasket. During installation apply torque on bolts until it reaches 10 Nm (89 lb-in). First disconnect heater hose and lower radiator hose from thermostat housing before removing the thermostat housing itself. You should install the thermostat housing by following its removal steps and using a new gasket. The cooling system requires filling and bleeding as the last steps.
