2009 Ford Mustang Power Steering Pump Parts Q&A
Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on a 4.0L engine on 2009 Ford Mustang?
A: Service and repair operations on 4.0L power steering pumps begin by taking out the air cleaner outlet pipe followed by using a proper vacuum tool to empty the power steering fluid from the reservoir. The power steering pump pulley receives three bolt releases before the tensioner enables the accessory drive belt pulley removal process. Secure the new pulley to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) after you install it on the power steering pump by removing three bolts which secure the present pulley. Disconnect the power steering pump supply hose by releasing its clamp while also disconnecting the pressure line bracket-to-A/C compressor stud nut to be tightened at 7 Nm (62 lb-in) after reinstallation. During reinstallation of this component tighten bracket bolt with proper torque of 8 Nm (71 lb-in). A fresh Teflon® seal needs installation after you remove the pressure line from the pump fitting and throw out the old seal before tightening the new one to 65 Nm (48 lb-ft). Use 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) torque when reinstalling the power steering pump by tightening the three securing bolts. The drive belt diagrams should be used when establishing accessory drive belt routing. The removal procedure should be reversed during installation while using the Teflon® Seal Installer Set for new Teflon® seal placement on the pressure line-to-pump fitting. The power steering system must be filled as the final step.
