2009 Ford Mustang Shift Knob Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Automatic Transmission Shift Knob on 2009 Ford Mustang?
A: Before servicing or repairing the automatic transmission shifter, professionals must remove the transmission shift knob assembly initially. Climbing beyond the rear of the transmission shift knob enables easy screw removal from its base. The Transmission Control Switch (TCS) electrical connector needs detachment after moving the transmission shift knob off the selector shaft. You must first join the TCS electrical connector before molding the TCS wire within the selector shaft channel to block the harness from reaching the sliding components. The transmission shift knob screw should never exceed a torque value of 3 Nm (27 lb-in) because this could damage the shift knob assembly. Position the base screw hole of the transmission shift knob with the selector shaft before installing the screw, which requires 3 Nm (27 lb-in) torque. Install the transmission shift knob assembly back into the vehicle as the last step of the procedure.
