2009 Ford Mustang Transmission Pan Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the Transmission Pan on a 5R55S transmission on 2009 Ford Mustang?
A: A professional should begin fluid pan maintenance of 5R55S transmission by draining the transmission fluid while the vehicle sits on a hoist and in neutral gear before removing the drain plug. Then dispose of the gasket. Separate the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) connectors together with retaining clip from the right transmission fluid pan rail and detach the connector from its mounting position at the front of the rail. The transmission fluid pan gasket has use value when it remains in good condition after cleaning and examination. Throw away the transmission fluid filter which has reached its end of life. Installation of the new transmission fluid filter requires automatic transmission fluid-based lubrication of its O-ring seals which should be properly seated to prevent damage. Follow by placing the filter inside the housing before assisting it with screws that need to reach 10 Nm tightening force (89 lb-in torque). Position the fluid pan magnet inside the pan before you install both parts with the screws initially loose and finish by tightening them in a cross-pattern to 11 Nm (71 lb-in). Set the sensor wire retaining clip in position on the right side as you reconnect the HO2S connector located at the pan rail front. Attach the drain plug fitted with its new gasket and torque it to 26 Nm (19 lb-ft). For removing the gasket use the 3/16-inch Allen key. The final step requires checking the transmission fluid level.
