2009 Ford Ranger A/C Accumulator Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: When Should the A/C Accumulator Be Replaced During HVAC System Servicing on 2009 Ford Ranger?
A: The suction accumulator requires replacement in HVAC service only when contamination exists from A/C compressor failure or physical damage such as leaks or moisture contamination occurs after extended system pressure equalization to atmospheric pressure exceeding one hour. The suction accumulator cannot be replaced when any remaining positive refrigerant pressure exists before repairs. You should start by recovering refrigerant then disconnecting the electrical connector of the A/C cycling switch. Subscribe to an additional tool when working with the suction accumulator inlet and outlet fittings to prevent damaging the tubing while discarding the O-ring seals. During reinstallation both inlet fittings must be torque tightened to 39 Nm (29 lb-ft). After removing suction accumulator bracket screws the technician takes out the part before following all procedures in reverse order while installing fresh O-ring seals and applying the correct clean PAG oil or equivalent to lubricate the refrigerant system. You must evacuate the system and perform leak tests along with charging the refrigerant system at the end.
