2009 Ford Ranger Brake Disc Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to Remove and Replace the Brake Disc on Both Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) on 2009 Ford Ranger?
A: The procedure of brake rotor/disc removal and replacement starts by taking out the front disc brake caliper anchor plate on both Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) vehicles. Vehicle owners with 4WD systems need to detach the brake disc. Begin RWD brake rotor replacement by removing the hub spindle grease cap followed by the cotter pin before taking off the hub spindle nut retainer and the hub spindle nut. Start by removing the brake disc and hub after taking away both the outer wheel bearing retaining washer and the outer wheel bearing. The replacement wheel hub grease seal functions as a disposable item that requires disposal of the existing seal while adding a new component. Complete the procedure by taking out the inner wheel bearing. Before installing the brake disc on 4WD vehicles workers must clean the wheel hub mating surface with specified brake parts cleaner while applying the specified anti-seize lubricant. The cleaning process includes specified metal brake parts cleaner application for all wheel bearings and brake disc along with hub race. RWD vehicles specifically need an inspection for wear and damage. The inner wheel bearing along with a new wheel hub grease seal goes into the brake disc hub when both components receive specified premium long-life grease applied for lubrication. Place the brake disc plus hub on the spindle followed by installation of the outer wheel bearing before adding the outer wheel bearing retaining washer then using the hub spindle nut for securing. Use a 29 Nm torque and perform brake disc and hub rotation before loosening the spindle nut by 175 degrees. Attach the spindle nut with 2 Nm of torque while the brake disc and hub completes another rotation. Place the hub spindle nut retainer followed by the cotter pin then install the hub grease cap on top. After this step complete installation by putting back the front disc brake caliper anchor plate followed by wheel and tire placement and check braking operation through multiple brake applications.
