2009 Ford Ranger Oil Pan Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the oil pan on 2009 Ford Ranger?
A: Positioning the vehicle on a hoist sets the condition to service and repair the oil pan. Begin by separating the engine cooling fan as well as the oil level indicator tube and its accessory. The LH engine support insulator-to-engine bracket nuts should be removed to elevate the LH side of the engine using the Lifting Eye and 3-Bar Engine Support Kit which will lift it around 25 mm (1 inch). The engine oil drainage requires extraction of the drain plug followed by its reinstallation and a 28 Nm (21 lb-ft) tightening torque. The first step involves detaching engine front cover wiring harness retainers as well as removing four engine front cover-to-oil pan bolts, transmission bracket-to-transmission bolts and four transmission-to-oil pan bolts. The mechanic should loosen the seven bolts connecting the transmission to the cylinder block by 5 mm (0.19 in) before moving the transmission toward the back by the same distance. A necessary step is lifting the transmission's rear side for exposing the oil pan. Remove all 13 oil pan bolts followed by extracting the oil pan from the system. Silicone gasket remover coupled with a plastic scraping tool will enable you to clean sealing surfaces correctly while you should avoid using metal scrapers or abrasive tools to avoid damage. Patch a 0.1 inches (2.5 mm) bead of silicone gasket and sealant onto the oil pan before placing it correctly then fasten the 13 bolts softly. The four engine front cover-to-oil pan bolts need tightening to 10 Nm (89 lb-in) then the 13 oil pan bolts require a torque of 25 Nm (18 lb-ft) according to the defined sequence. After reattaching both wiring harness retainers you should move the transmission forward while tightening the seven bolts joining the cylinder block to the transmission using 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) torque. After first tightening the four transmission-to-oil pan bolts to 48 Nm (35 lb-ft) spanners users should proceed with tightening the transmission bracket-to-transmission bolts to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft). Toward the end of installation lower the engine before removing the 3-Bar Engine Support Kit with the Lifting Eye and securing the engine support insulator nuts at 102 Nm (75 lb-ft). After installing the new oil filter the user should reattach both the oil level indicator and tube and engine cooling fan and complete the oil filling process with clean engine oil.
