2009 Ford Ranger Power Steering Pump Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump for the 2.3L engine on 2009 Ford Ranger?
A: The first step to serve and fix the power steering pump for the 2.3L engine involves sealing off the power steering system from foreign material entry to stop component destruction. Use a suitable vacuum tool to extract power steering fluid from the reservoir while ensuring all operation takes place outside of accessory drive belt range to protect it from harm. The next step requires you to take off the power steering pump pulley. Start by reducing the clamp pressure on the supply hose before separating the pressure line from the pump with a new Teflon® seal that needs discarding. The fitting requires torque at 65 Nm (48 lb-ft) when you reinstall it. The power steering pump must be removed after you detach its four bolts while making sure you torque these bolts to 23 Nm (17 lb-ft) during reinstallation. Replacement of the Teflon® seal is required whenever pressure line fittings get disconnected because this method stops fluid leaks effectively through the Teflon® Seal Installer Set. The power steering system requires a fluid fill as the last step.
