How to remove and replace the rear bumper cover on 2009 Ford Taurus?

You must park a Taurus or Sable vehicle on a hoist in neutral gear to approach bumper cover removal and replacement. First detach the rear lamps before unscrewing the 8 rear bumper cover screws that distribute through four points on each side and dislodging the wheel well's two scrivets. Start with removing the luggage compartment trim panel from inside then disconnect both plastic rivets positioned one on each side from the upper rear bumper cover before removing the six rear bumper cover nuts that require tightening at 5 Nm or 44 lb-in when reinstalling. Before installation you must disconnect both the electrical connector from the rear parking aid and from the license plate lamp when the vehicle has these components. The forward upper part of the bumper cover requires proper outward pulling to drop free before taking off the rear bumper cover.
