The process of servicing and repairing four-door rear bumper covers starts with elevating and supporting the complete vehicle. Disengage the drain tube followed by removal of the pin-type retainers. You must first remove four screws while moving aside the left-hand and right-hand splash shields to see the rear bumper cover bolt mounts. Lower the vehicle after removing the two rear bumper cover to body nuts and then open its luggage compartment lid. Remove the pin-type retainers. To service the Taurus model begin by extracting the five pin-type retainers and two nuts and the scuff plate to position aside the LH and RH luggage trim panels. The installation of the LH and RH luggage trim panels plus the scuff plate and two nuts and three pin-type retainers requires completion to access the Sable model bumper cover. The rear bumper cover nuts requirement varies between Taurus at six and Sable at eight. To finish the process put back the rear bumper cover by undoing steps you used for removal.
