2009 Ford Taurus X Harmonic Balancer Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service and repair the harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley on 2009 Ford Taurus X?
A: Start harmonic balancer and crankshaft pulley repair by hoisting the vehicle to a work position with its gear in neutral. Start by removing both accessories drive belt and power steering belt from the system. The Strap Wrench should be employed to detach the crankshaft bolt and washer which needs disposal. A 3 Jaw Puller should be used to remove the crankshaft pulley after positioning it at the right location. To properly install the components apply clean engine oil to both the front seal inner lip of the crankshaft and the sealing surfaces of the outside diameter. The Front Cover Oil Seal Installer along with Crankshaft Vibration Damper Replacer should be used to install the crankshaft pulley. The Strap Wrench must be used for washer and bolt installation before performing four successive torque stages starting from 120 Nm to 50 Nm followed by 90-degree tightening. Finishing the procedure requires installing both the accessory drive belt and power steering belt.
