2009 Lincoln MKZ Alternator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to service the alternator on a 3.5L generator on 2009 Lincoln MKZ?
A: The first step to servicing an alternator on a 3.5L generator requires the removal of the A/C compressor along with battery disconnect. The service requires you to move the generator protective cover aside before removing the nut to access the generator B+ terminal which needs to be tightened properly to 12 Nm (106 lb-in) when reinstalling. Disconnect the generator electrical connector through the removal of the pin-type retainer combined with the removal of the wiring harness. Apply clean engine oil on the oil filter seal before installing the filter which has been removed from the system. The engine wiring harness needs to be set aside before removing the generator stud nut that requires 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) torque during reinstall. To finish the setup you need to take away the generator bolt and generator unit before executing the installation backwards.
