Alternator

Start maintenance and repairs of the alternator by unplugging the battery from its power source. Commence by taking off the cooling fan then turn the accessory drive belt tensioner to the counterclockwise direction for placing the accessory drive belt in position. First move the generator B+ terminal protective cover to reveal it then remove the fastener while placing the B+ terminal away before tightening the fastener to 17 Nm (150 lb-in). Disconnect the generator electrical connector by removing its pin-type retainer clamp as well as the wiring harness. The removal procedure requires the removal of the generator stud nut that will need a 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) torque setting for installation. After extracting the generator stud users must secure it with a torque of 8 Nm (71 lb-in) during reinstall. After removing the RH fender splash shield, loosen the generator bolt followed by generator removal where the bolt needs to be tightened to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) upon finishing installation. The reverse order of removal steps should be followed to finish the process.

Service of the alternator should begin by disconnecting the battery from its power supply. The RH fender splash shield should be detached first so you can loosen the generator bolt to remove the generator while tightening it to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft) before reinstalling. The complete process ends with performing the opposite steps of removal.

Unplug the battery from your vehicle first after setting it in NEUTRAL on a hoist. You should rotate the accessory drive belt tensioner counterwise before placing the accessory drive belt to the side. Transport the vehicle into NEUTRAL position on a hoist while disabling the battery power. Then remove the 8 pin-typed retainers followed by the right lower splash shield. During installation remove the 3 generator nuts and stud bolts then tighten generator stud bolts to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) while tightening new generator bolts or nuts to 47 Nm (35 lb-ft). The installation process ends with the removal of the generator along with its shield and a backward execution of the original removal steps.

The first step in repairing or servicing an alternator requires removing the A/C compressor together with disconnecting the vehicle battery.
