How should the passenger air bag module be serviced to prevent serious injury from accidental deployment on 2009 Lincoln Navigator?

Service personnel must position an active air bag module with its air bag and deployment door/tear seam/trim cover facing away from their body during handling to prevent fatal injuries from accidental deployment. The maintenance process requires preventing any probing activity on air bag Safety Canopy® or side air curtain module connectors because such probing might cause undesired deployment of these systems. The passenger air bag cover does not require replacement due to damaging or discoloration since it can be serviced individually. The air bag warning indicator activates only when the correct Restraints Control Module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch shows ON status. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) needs full operational capability without any faults before restoring the vehicle to the customer. Deploy the SRS system followed by lowering the glove box panel after you disconnect the electrical cable connecting the passenger air bag module. Expedition vehicles require the removal of four passenger air bag trim cover screws before you can remove the four passenger air bag module bolts for installation with 9 Nm (80 lb-in) torque. To eliminate the passenger air bag module you need to push up on the passenger air bag cover bottom while freeing the bottom trim cover clips from the instrument panel. tamper each trim cover clip until they securely clip into the instrument panel before you repower the Supplemental Restraint System.
